Arrival On the day of arrival, your vacation package begins with your flight to Delaney Lake Lodge on a float plane chartered with Nestor Falls Fly-In Outposts & Charter Service. The flight to the lodge is about a 40 minute trip and leaves around 10 a.m., so arrive at the flight service no later than 9:15 a.m. For the most relaxing travel, we suggest you stay in Nestor Falls the evening before your package begins at either the Arrowhead Motel (807-484-2132) or the Nestor Falls Motel (807-484-2131). You will need to make reservations with them or another motel. If you do not stay in Nestor Falls, allow ample time for travel and customs. The drive from International Falls to Nestor Falls takes about 1 hour after clearing customs. If you plan to fly rather than drive, you can rent a car or use the shuttle van available through North Air Services (807-274-5301). The van can carry from 1-7 people at a rate of $85/van. Reservations need to be made directly with the van service. Departure Guests departing Delaney Lake Lodge board the float plane after the arriving guests have deplaned between 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. and return to Nestor Falls. If you are returning home via a commercial airliner, do not book a flight prior to 2 p.m. Your frozen, packaged fish will be sent with you, so you will want to have a cooler available, and perhaps purchase dry ice for longer travel times.
WHAT TO BRING Limit your luggage. It must fit on the float plane with you (suggestion: 50 lbs). Layers of clothing to cover all types of weather. Rain gear is a must. Rubber shoes or boots. Camera & Film. Insect repellent. Sunscreen. Rod & Reel with 6-12# test line. Favorite fishing tackle. Our guides suggest 1/4-1/2 oz jigs in a variety of colors, spoons in gold, silver & bright colors (lures & jigs available in the tackle shop). Personal items & medicine. Battery powered alarm clock.
Reservations Contact the summer (mid May to Sept.) or winter (Oct. to May 1st) phone or address for available dates and reservations. Call early for best selection. To secure and guarantee your reservation, a $200 deposit per person is required within 14 days of the time your reservation is made. The balance is due upon departure from the lodge. Payment may be made by personal or travelers checks, or cash (U.S. Currency or Canadian Equivalent). Refunds of deposits require 90 days prior notice (less $50 handling fee per person). So there is no misunderstanding, you are responsible for the time you have booked. Early checkouts will be charged for the full time reserved. Guest reservations cancelled with 45 days or less notice are responsible for the remaining balance of the package if the space cannot be rebooked. Due to the nature of our business and remote location, correspondence by email is not practical.
